Nepal Police
The Nepal Police serves
as Nepal's primary law enforcement agency, responsible for maintaining law and
order, preventing and investigating crimes, and conducting various other roles
within the country's defined jurisdiction. Established in 1955 AD (2012 B.S.),
it has evolved from its historical origins during the Rana Regime to its modern
form. Notably, during the democratic movement of 1990, the Police Reform
Commission was established, leading to modernization efforts and international
peacekeeping involvement. The force, led by Inspector General of Police Basanta
Bahadur Kunwar, comprises over 79,000 personnel across permanent and temporary
offices. In addition to the departments, there are the National Police Academy
and the Metropolitan Police Office that are being looked by Additional
Inspector General of Police.
Four main departments,
including Operation and Crime Investigation, Central Investigation Bureau, and
Administration, manage police activities under the leadership of Additional
Inspector Generals of Police. Nepal Police also maintains the National Police
Academy and Metropolitan Police Office. The force's structure is hierarchically
defined with distinct ranks and corresponding insignia. Their emblem features
the national flag, crossed khukuri and police baton, and a Nepalese motto. The
Nepal Police fulfills a crucial role in maintaining security and public order
in the country, while its history reflects Nepal's political and societal
shifts.
